From our 37th Street gate to the Lake Lawtonka Boat Ramp is 18.4 miles by road, about 29 minutes without traffic. A typical route runs up Lee Blvd to Cache Rd, onto the Pioneer Expressway, then OK-49 to the lake.

  • Launching at first light? Hook up the evening before. The gate is open 8am to 8pm, so an early launch works best when the boat is already on the truck.
  • Towing? Add a few minutes to the estimate.
  • Back the same day? The gate closes at 8pm, so plan to return your boat before then.

Winter storage on the Oklahoma calendar

Dates below are averages for Lawton. NOAA’s 1991 to 2020 normals put the first fall frost around October 27 (other sources say up to October 31) and the last spring frost around April 13. A hard freeze can come earlier, so treat them as targets, not deadlines.

  1. Early October

    Book the space and the service

    Winter spaces and marine shop appointments fill up before the first cold snap. Line up your space now, and if you want a shop to winterize the engine, book that too.

  2. Before about October 27

    Winterize

    Add fuel stabilizer and run the engine to circulate it. Flush the engine and service the lower unit and fluids the way your manual directs. Drain the livewells, bilge and washdown lines, and charge the battery before you disconnect it.

  3. Move-in day

    Park it right

    Pull the drain plug and tie it somewhere you will see it on launch day. Set the tongue jack, chock the wheels, prop the cover so it sheds water, and take valuables and electronics home.

  4. November to March

    Look in monthly

    Walk around it. Is the cover still snug, the tires still inflated, is water pooling on the cover, any sign of rodents? Small problems are cheap in January.

  5. Early April

    Wake it up

    Around the average last frost, put in fresh fuel, check the battery, fluids, trailer lights and tire pressure, then do a test run before your first launch of the season.

Covering it

Cover it the right way

A good cover keeps sun, dust and Oklahoma weather off while your boat sits. A bad one can do more harm than none.

  • Use a breathable, fitted cover. Skip sealed plastic tarps. They trap condensation against the gelcoat and can leave mildew.
  • Let it dry first. After a pull, open the compartments, drain the livewell and bilge, and give the boat time to dry before you cover it.
  • Shed water, do not hold it. Prop the cover so rain runs off instead of pooling, and cinch the straps snug, not crushing.
  • Leave the drain plug out so moisture can escape, and keep the plug where you will find it.
Storing it at home?

Check Lawton’s 24-foot line first

Under Lawton’s code, a trailer carrying a boat counts as a recreational vehicle. Measured the city’s way, tongue and motor included, many boat rigs pass 24 feet. Over the line, it can sit in a front driveway only 5 days in any 10-day period. Behind a solid fence at least 5 feet tall in a side or rear yard, any size is allowed.

What size space does my boat need?
Measure from the trailer’s hitch coupler to the farthest point at the back, motor included, then add 2 to 3 feet to pull in and out. Spaces are 10×20 (up to 20 ft), 10×30 (up to 30 ft) and 10×40 (up to 40 ft). If you are between sizes, go one up. The size checker above does the math.
How far is the lot from Lake Lawtonka?
It is 18.4 miles by road, about 29 minutes without traffic or towing, from our 37th Street lot to the Lake Lawtonka Boat Ramp. Plan on a few extra minutes when you are towing.
Is boat parking covered or indoors?
No. Parking is outdoors and not enclosed. A fitted, breathable cover keeps the sun and weather off, and the winter timeline on this page covers how to prep the boat.
Does my boat stay on its trailer?
Yes. You park the boat and trailer together in a marked space.
What are the gate hours?

Is there power at the spaces?
No. Spaces do not have power hookups. Take the battery home, or use a battery tender on your visits.
Can you winterize my boat?
No. We provide the space, not the service. A local marine shop can winterize the engine for you, and the timeline on this page shows what needs doing and when.
Can I keep my boat at home instead?
Sometimes. Lawton counts a boat on a trailer as a recreational vehicle. Over 24 feet overall, tongue included, it can sit in a front driveway only 5 days in any 10-day period. Behind a solid fence at least 5 feet tall in a side or rear yard, any size is allowed. See the full rules.
How much does boat parking cost?

Will my rate go up after I move in?
No. Your rate is written into your rental agreement and locked for 24 months from your move-in date. AutoPay and an account in good standing are required to keep the lock. If a payment fails or the account goes past due, the locked rate becomes subject to change under the terms of your rental agreement.
Can I move in the same day?
Yes. Reserve online, upload your driver’s license, sign your lease on your phone, and set up AutoPay. Your personal gate code is texted to you, usually within a minute.
